Amid the devastation caused by the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, there have been a few heartwarming moments that have stirred the emotions of many. The fires, which started on January 7th, have taken the lives of 24 people and destroyed entire neighborhoods, leaving communities in shock. However, amidst the tragedy, some stories of human kindness have emerged.
One such story involves Casey Colvin, who had been desperately trying to return to his home in the Palisades area, one of the hardest-hit regions, to locate his two beloved dogs. Colvin had been forced to evacuate without them, and his pets, Oreo and Tika Tika Tika, were still inside.
In a tearful interview with NBC News correspondent Liz Kreutz, Colvin expressed the anguish of being unable to reach his home due to roadblocks. He broke down, telling the reporter, “I literally rescued them off the street, they deserve better than this. How do I get to my house?”
Kreutz, in an Instagram post about the situation, explained that a heroic firefighter overheard the emotional exchange and volunteered to help. The firefighter went to Colvin’s home and managed to find Tika Tika Tika, bringing her back to the staging area. Sadly, Oreo, a rescue dog with behavioral issues, had apparently run out of the house and was missing.
Tragically, Colvin’s house was completely destroyed by the flames hours later, but the firefighter’s quick thinking saved Tika Tika Tika’s life. The days that followed were excruciating for Colvin, who spent five agonizing days searching through the wreckage of his neighborhood, distributing flyers in hopes of finding Oreo.

Then, just when it seemed like all hope was lost, a passerby found Oreo among the ruins. A video of the reunion captured the emotional moment when Colvin, overwhelmed with relief, called out to Oreo, “Oh my god, you’re alive! You’re alive! Thank you, God,” as he scooped the dog into his arms, overcome with joy.
The video, shared by Kreutz on social media, quickly went viral, with viewers praising Colvin’s perseverance and Oreo’s incredible resilience. Many people expressed their empathy for Colvin, with one commenter saying, “I would be right there with this guy, totally losing it and crying my eyes out if it were my dog. So happy for this man and his little pup!”

Others remarked on the significance of the reunion, with one person writing, “This could be the one thing that holds someone’s life together after such an immense tragedy. My heart is so full for this man I don’t even know. That dog survived the unimaginable and ran straight to dad.”
In the face of overwhelming loss, the bond between Colvin and his dogs provided a powerful moment of hope and healing.
