Steve-O, a longtime friend and co-star of Bam Margera from the Jackass series, has expressed deep concerns about Margera’s well-being, fearing that his friend may not survive his ongoing battle with addiction. The comments were made in light of a new documentary, The Curious Case of… Bam Margera, which dives into the skateboarder and stuntman’s difficult journey through addiction, legal struggles, and personal turmoil.
The documentary reveals that Margera’s family tried to intervene in 2021 to help him with his addiction issues, but he rejected their efforts. As a result, they appointed Lima Jevremovic as his legal guardian in June 2021. This decision, however, sparked controversy and led to the #FreeBam movement, with many questioning whether Jevremovic’s guardianship was truly benefiting Margera. The trailer for the documentary shows Jevremovic attempting to speak with Margera, only to be dismissed by him.
Steve-O, who has been outspoken about his concern for his friend, is featured prominently in the documentary. He candidly reflects on the painful reality of seeing Margera struggle, noting that when they first met, Bam had no interest in substance abuse, while Steve-O himself had been fighting his own demons for years before eventually achieving sobriety. In a heartfelt moment, Steve-O shares, “People love a comeback story so much, but is that point going to come or is he going to be dead first? I don’t know.”

Bam Margera’s health has been a significant concern for his friends and family. In December 2022, Margera shared on Steve-O’s Wild Ride! podcast that he had nearly died after contracting a severe case of COVID-19. He revealed that he suffered four seizures, one of which almost caused him to bite his tongue off. Margera was placed on life support and spent several days in the hospital following the incident.
Steve-O, who has had his own health scares, expressed his anxiety about his friend’s condition. He took Margera on tour with him in an attempt to keep him close and help him find a path toward recovery. “It’s become extremely uncomfortable to be braced for the news of your death, Bam,” Steve-O said. “I’ve been bracing myself for that f***ing awful news, and I can’t stand it, man.”

During the tour, Steve-O introduced Bam onto the stage, encouraging him to pursue a career in comedy and storytelling. Steve-O emphasized that for Margera’s journey to be truly meaningful, it needed to culminate in a “happy ending,” where Margera could emerge as a healthy, thriving individual and a good father.
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when, on the final day of the tour, Margera began posting negative comments about Jackass star Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff Tremaine. Steve-O later revealed that Margera admitted the outburst was fueled by alcohol.
Despite the setbacks, Steve-O remains hopeful for a positive outcome, though his fear for his friend’s future is palpable. “I want you to come out the other end happy and healthy,” Steve-O said, expressing his unwavering support for Bam in the face of uncertainty.
