Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has shared an emotional update on her health, revealing that she is now in remission after her cancer diagnosis nearly a year ago.

In March 2024, Kate publicly disclosed that she had been undergoing treatment for cancer, following a period of public speculation about her absence. She did not specify the type of cancer, but confirmed that she had undergone abdominal surgery earlier in the year and received chemotherapy as part of her treatment plan.
After completing a course of preventive chemotherapy in September, Kate has continued to share updates on her recovery. In a recent post on the official social media account of the Prince and Princess of Wales, Kate shared a photograph of herself visiting The Royal Marsden Hospital, where she is now a patron. The post confirmed that she had entered remission.

In her message, Kate expressed heartfelt gratitude: “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year. My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”
She went on to explain her new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, emphasizing her commitment to supporting cancer research, clinical excellence, and improving the experience of those impacted by cancer. “My hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer,” she said.

Kate reflected on her personal experience, acknowledging the challenges of recovery: “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
Earlier in the day, Kate visited The Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, London, where she had undergone chemotherapy. During her visit, she spoke with patients currently receiving similar treatments, offering words of encouragement.
Speaking about her own journey with cancer, Kate described the emotional impact of the diagnosis. “It’s really tough. It’s such a shock. Everyone said to me please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference,” she said. “It’s the uncertainty of that initial diagnosis. It’s such a wealth of information. Understanding the diagnosis, it’s a massive amount of information to take on as a patient. Having that continuity, in the clinical setting and outside in the home setting, is so important.”
Kate also opened up about the ongoing challenges she faces. “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge. The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient – yes, there are side effects around treatment, but actually there are more long-term side effects.”
Her brave openness and dedication to supporting others affected by cancer continue to inspire many. As she moves forward in her recovery, Kate remains a symbol of strength and resilience for all those battling the disease.
