Samantha Rose Baldwin, the actress known for her role in the Gossip Girl reboot, recently made headlines for her heroic and dramatic run through the devastating Los Angeles fires. Baldwin, 26, raced home through the raging flames and ashes to rescue her 10-year-old tortoiseshell cat, Kitty, during the dangerous Palisades Fire.
A Race Against Time: Rescuing Her Beloved Cat
Instead of fleeing from the wildfire like many others, Baldwin courageously drove through the thickening smoke to reach her apartment in Pacific Palisades. The actress, who made her TV debut in the Gossip Girl reboot (2021-2022), faced significant challenges as she navigated her way through a flood of traffic caused by people evacuating the area.
What was supposed to be a 28-minute drive from West Hollywood to Pacific Palisades turned into a grueling two-and-a-half-hour ordeal. Faced with immobile traffic, Baldwin had no choice but to abandon her car and run on foot to save her cat.
“I decided to park my car and run,” Baldwin explained. “I ran for about 15 minutes on Sunset Boulevard until I made it home.”

A Hero’s Journey: Baldwin’s Struggle to Find Kitty
Once at her apartment, Baldwin’s next challenge was finding her cat, who had hidden in a safe spot. After 20 minutes of searching, Baldwin finally found Kitty inside the couch. She quickly wrapped her up in a blanket and placed her inside a cat carrier backpack, prepared to face the advancing fire.
“The fire had gotten closer, and the path back to my car was no longer an option,” Baldwin said. “It was terrifying when a gust of wind and smoke came so fast that we couldn’t see anything.”

Survival and Escape: Battling the Firestorm
With the fire rapidly closing in, Baldwin made the life-or-death decision to head toward the ocean. “I was genuinely running for my life with my cat strapped to my back and a suitcase rolling behind me,” she said. “I had to dodge flaming branches and palm leaves falling around me like a minefield.”
Her quick thinking and determination paid off as Baldwin safely reached the beach, where she reunited with her father, Michael, a security guard who had been helping evacuate a nearby school. While Baldwin was running to safety, her father had successfully evacuated students and was now assisting firefighters.
Emotional Moments Amid Chaos

While fleeing the fire, Baldwin took a moment to call her mother, telling her how much she loved her. “I honestly didn’t know if I was going to make it,” Baldwin admitted.
At the Pacific Coast Highway, Baldwin encountered a family who had been instructed by law enforcement to leave their cars due to the rapidly spreading fire. “They told me they were told to run towards the ocean,” she shared.
Aftermath and Recovery
Baldwin is currently staying with a friend in North Hollywood, thankful for the safety of her cat, Kitty, who has adjusted well to their new environment. Baldwin’s cat has already weathered one natural disaster, as she was originally fostered by Baldwin after being rescued from Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Baldwin’s physical recovery has been challenging, as she noted the overwhelming effects of the fire. “My body aches, and I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus,” she said. “I had so much ash on my face that I looked like I just walked out of Mad Max. My chest hurts and my throat is scratchy, but overall, I’m so thankful to be alive.”
The Impact of the Palisades Fire
The Palisades Fire, which broke out during a powerful Santa Ana windstorm, has caused widespread devastation in Southern California. The National Weather Service warned that the winds could be “life-threatening,” and the fire spread quickly, leading to mandatory evacuations throughout the Pacific Coast and surrounding areas.
As of now, two people have been reported dead, and thousands of structures have been destroyed. Firefighters have been struggling to overcome obstacles, including abandoned cars blocking emergency routes and fire hydrants running dry. Despite these challenges, local authorities are working tirelessly to contain the multiple blazes that have broken out in neighborhoods such as Altadena and Sylmar.
Looking Ahead: Baldwin’s Future Projects
Amid the chaos, Baldwin remains focused on her career. She has two films set for release in 2025, including Kaitlyn’s Chance, where she stars alongside Sean Patrick Flannery, Jennifer Taylor, and Jaime King.
As she moves forward from this traumatic experience, Baldwin is thankful for the safety of her father and her beloved cat, Kitty. “I’m just so grateful to be alive, and that my family is safe,” she said, reflecting on the ordeal.
