Boys Face Charges After ‘Prank’ Leaves Friend Severely Burned at Sleepover

A group of boys is facing legal consequences after a sleepover prank in Tifton, Georgia, left one of their friends with serious burns. The 12-year-old victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered second-degree burns after three other boys allegedly poured scalding hot water on his face while he slept.

The boys, aged between 12 and 15, claimed that the incident was meant to be a harmless joke, but it quickly turned disastrous. The victim’s mother, Tiffany, expressed her shock and heartbreak after learning of her son’s injuries. “I was in complete disbelief, angry, and scared for my son. I couldn’t think straight—just focused on getting him help as fast as I could,” she told local news outlet WALB 10.

The boy was rushed to the burn center in Augusta, nearly 200 miles from their home, where he underwent surgery for the severe burns. Tiffany shared that the recovery process will be long, with her son needing 12 to 14 days to heal. “He’s still in shock, and it’s been difficult for all of us,” she added.

The family’s ordeal has been further complicated by the extensive travel needed for medical care, which has left the boy’s parents unable to work, adding financial strain to an already emotional situation. The victim’s aunt revealed that her nephew will likely need counseling in the future, as the trauma from the prank has deeply shaken his ability to trust others.

As for the boys who allegedly carried out the prank, they have been taken into custody and later released. They are now awaiting their court hearing, which is scheduled for next month.

This tragic event brings to light the dangers of so-called “pranks” that go horribly wrong. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time an innocent joke has resulted in lasting harm. In December 2021, 22-year-old Conner Groom died after a seemingly harmless game at a driving range turned fatal when he suffered a severe spinal injury. He later passed away in the hospital after a month-long battle for his life.

The incident in Tifton serves as a reminder of how easily a prank can escalate into something far more serious. While the boys involved may have had no malicious intent, their actions have caused immense pain and hardship for their friend and his family. The community now waits to see how the justice system will address this troubling situation.

Tifton police have yet to comment, but the case continues to develop as the boys prepare for their upcoming legal proceedings.
