A bulldog named Harley has been hailed a hero after his chewing habit potentially saved his owner’s life. David Lindsay, the dog’s owner, was napping on the couch when Harley, his playful pup, decided to chew on an unexpected target—David’s toe.
While chewing on various objects is a common habit among puppies, this time Harley’s actions had serious consequences. David woke up to find his toe severely injured, with the bone exposed, leading him to seek immediate medical attention. Little did he know, Harley’s nibbling was actually a lifesaver.
Doctors were able to treat the injury in time, and David later learned that if left untreated, the damage could have led to more severe complications. Grateful for his dog’s quick thinking, David expressed that Harley had “done him a favor” despite the painful injury.

“I’m waiting to find out if they can put stents in,” David shared. “But I’ll be keeping the dog. I’ll try to keep my toe too, but if not, I told the doctor to cut it off and I can take it home for him!” he added, showing no signs of resentment toward his furry friend.
Although David had to remain in the hospital for over a week following the incident, he was eventually reunited with Harley, and their bond remained stronger than ever. While it’s certainly not the way anyone would want to be saved, David has a new appreciation for his loyal dog and the surprising role Harley played in saving his health.
In the end, Harley’s unintentional chewing habit might have seemed troublesome at first, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
